So on to another run for you to try in Edinburgh here at Edinburgh Running. This run is aimed around business tourists who need a good run after work when staying in the city, but it is also great for anyone based in the city centre to try. It’s the Caledonian Hotel run and unsurprisingly it starts on Rutland Street in Edinburgh’s west end just of Lothian Road at the Caley Hotel. One of the beauties of running is of course that you can take time to reflect on the day and what better a way to do this than a city run after a hard day at the office!
So the run today starts and finishes at the Caledonian Hilton Hotel in Edinburgh and is an almost perfect short burst for you to try at 5km. This is a great and reasonably quick run for you and the great thing about it is there is still plenty of parkland we travel through and some great views out across the city including Edinburgh castle and Carlton Hill. At a distance of just over 5k it is enough to test you but not leave you exhausted, a great little run and only mild hills for you to negotiate.
So start by turning right out of the Hilton, you are going to start this run on Lothian Road. As you run up Lothian Road you will pass the Usher Hall on your left and the Filmhouse on your right, continue up past the Odeon cinema and at the top of the hill when you see the clock follow the fork in the road around to the left. The road swings round through the Meadows which is a beautiful park in the centre of Edinburgh and gives you plenty time to relax and enjoy the views. Once you come out of the meadows go straight through the first set of lights and take the left at the 2nd junction onto Clerk Street (you will see a blockbuster video on the corner). You are now working you way through Newington and back into the town centre, on your left you will see the glass fronted festival theatre and further down you will see Edinburgh Universities famous "old building" again on your left. Further on down the road you will run over North bridge which gives spectacular views in all directions around you, now for the last turn, at the very bottom of the bridge you turn left and run past the Balmoral Hotel on the east end of Princess Street. Now it’s a straight run back home keeping your eyes peeled for the castle on your left and maybe in the future an Edinburgh Tram will appear too.
This is a wonderful and historical run in Edinburgh and I am sure when you try this you will be very happy with both the route and the sight seeing. I would definitely suggest this route for anyone staying along the course as well as it is an easy run to pick up at any point. A great run and one I like to complete now and again when I want to see a bit of the city centre.
So that’s it folks. The Caledonian Hilton Hotel run. Give it a try and let me know how you find it.
